Cape Raoul is one of Tasmania's

60 Great Short Walks: 6. Cape Raoul

Cape Raoul Hiking Tour - Basic Itinerary
  • Hobart to Stormlea - drive 2hrs. Enjoy coastal scenery as we pass by the fishing towns of Dunalley and stunning Eagle Hawk Neck with panoramic views.
  • Stopping along the drive for morning tea/coffee. We view the walking map and learn the minimal impact walking principles.
  • The hike to Cape Raoul is a return walk: The first section is a great warm-up for the day, nicely laid stone steps skirting up into the forest. The trail work is some of the best in the country. As we wind up in-land keep and eye and ear out for local birds. Views back to famous Shippies surf break and coastline.

  • Cape Raoul is the missing leg of the newly opened Three Capes Track, jutting out to the southern ocean, the track concludes 200m above the water.

  • Enjoy panoramic views to Cape Pillar, Tasman and Bruny Island.

  • View spectacular dolerite columns popular with dare-devil climbers.

  • We'll spend some time on the Cape enjoying a picnic with the view.

  • On returning we re-trace, though this time viewing over the coastline of the Tasman National Park. Towards the forest we ascend a  section of steps, don't worry it is short and sharp, then wind our way back into the rainforest.

  • Arrive back to Hobart approx. 5:30 with hotel drop offs if needed.
