Mount Wellington Hike
Lets go hike Hobart's most popular mountain!
Fern Tree to Mount Wellington Summit Hike
An inspiring half-day experience that provides scenic access to Hobart's most popular mountain! This challenging, yet rewarding guided hike takes you from the serenity of Fern Tree Village, along the bush tracks of Wellington Park,
all the way to the summit of kunanyi/Mount Wellington. At 1272m, the summit provides stunning panoramic views overlooking the Hobart city, Western wilderness and beyond over Southern Tasmania.
After a short 20-minute drive from Hobart city, we travel up through the historic suburbs of Battery Point and South Hobart. Beautiful Sandstone estates and mountain living.
Starting at the lofty Fern Tree Village, we'll view the map and detail the hiking trails for the day. Toilets available.
We head off along the Pipe-Line trail with our first stop being the lush Silver Falls. A pleasant cascade and part of Hobart's historic water catchment system - which you will learn all about from your local guide.
After around 45-minutes on the trail, we arrive at 'The Springs'. The recreational hub on the mountain. Most of the hiking trails crossing the eastern face depart from here.
Coffee is available from the lovely Lost Freight Cafe. Toilets available
We head off along the Pinnacle trail the original track early explorers used to summit the mountain. Grand views will start to appear over the city as the forest begins to decrease in height and the geology changes!
The Zig-Zag trail is our final track for the day. Here we make our way up a steep section with extensive views of the rocky mountain slopes
Pass by a recent boulder fall - a reminder that the landscape is still changing!
Arriving at the summit we can stand atop the trig point - 1,272m high! Spend time at the 4 lookout points overlooking the waterways around Hobart. Toilets available - with an impressive view!
Depart the summit with a 30-minute trip back down to the city. Arriving approx. 5PM.
